Description

The 25ANTARES (25 Antares) is Shimano's centrifugal-brake flagship baitcasting reel — the first full model change to Antares in 13 years. A new Magnum Light Spool IV (37/21mm, nylon 14lb-100m) uses a reverse-taper shape to correct line lay and cut spool vibration, paired with the SVS Infinity brake for a cast that stays smooth right to the end.

It's also the first baitcasting reel to carry Shimano's Silent Drive, plus triple-bearing support on the drive-gear shaft for a refined retrieve, and a reshaped palming body and clutch lever for smoother handling.

Sizes: 100MG, 101MG, 100HG, 101HG, 100XG, 101XG.

Information

The drivetrain

A reverse-taper Magnum Light Spool IV and the SVS Infinity centrifugal brake keep the spool light and consistent through the whole cast rather than tailing off near the end. Silent Drive and triple-bearing gear-shaft support give the retrieve a refined, low-vibration feel through the handle.

What it's built for

An all-round bass casting reel at home flipping and pitching worms and jigs, working crankbaits through cover, or throwing topwater and swimbaits on open water wherever confidence at distance with light-to-medium lures matters.

How it fishes

Choose MG (5.6:1) for deep crankbaits and big swimbaits worked slowly, HG (7.4:1) as the all-round middle ground, or XG (7.8:1) for fast-moving topwater, chatterbaits and quick slack pickup after a jump.

Spools and spares

Suits a 6'6"-7'3" medium to medium-heavy bass casting rod, 12-16lb fluorocarbon or 30-50lb braid with a fluorocarbon leader, depending on cover and lure choice.
