Information

The swimming action

The Hardcore LG Heavy Minnow is a compact, fixed-weight sinking minnow built for super long casts relative to its light-game size, holding a stable swimming action through twitches and jerks rather than a straight retrieve alone. The action stays consistent whether fished from a boat or shore, which helps anglers dial in a reliable, repeatable presentation across different marks.

When to throw it

A light-game option for seabass and other inshore species where a small profile is needed but standard light minnows fall short on casting distance, useful for reaching fish holding further off structure. It also suits low-light periods around dawn and dusk, when fish move shallower and closer to structure to feed.

How to work it

Work it with twitching or jerking retrieves through the 0.2-1.0 m range rather than a plain straight wind, pausing between twitches to let the fixed weight hold its depth. Small pauses worked into the retrieve often convert a following fish that has not yet fully committed to the strike.

The setup it likes

Suits a 7'-8' L to ML light-game spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, PE0.6-1.0 braid and a 6-10 lb fluorocarbon leader. Adjust rod power and leader strength up for structure-heavy marks where a hooked fish needs to be turned quickly, or down for open, snag-free water.
