Description

The Rapala Floating Jointed J5 is a 5cm, 4g two-piece jointed minnow made from plastic rather than the balsa used elsewhere in the J-series. It floats and runs at 0.9–1.5m, and is rigged with two size 10 hooks.

The hinged body lets it swim with a lifelike wriggle at speeds well below what a standard floating minnow needs to work, riding with its back breaking the surface film. Available in a range of official Rapala colourways including Yellow Perch, Blue, Fire Tiger, Gold Fluorescent Red, Perch, Rainbow Trout and Silver.

When to throw it

Effective for shallow water where a more exaggerated swimming action is wanted, drawing strikes from fish that won't commit to a straighter-swimming bait.

How to work it

Works from a dead-slow crawl through to a standard retrieve without losing action; short pauses let the jointed sections settle and flutter before moving off again.

The setup it likes

Suits a 6'6" medium-light spinning rod with 6–10 lb fluorocarbon and a 2000–2500 reel.
