Description

The Rapala CountDown CD9 is a 9cm, 12g balsa wood minnow from the long-running CountDown series, built to sink at a steady, countable rate to a running depth of 2.1–3.0m. It is fitted with two size 5 hooks and is available in a wide range of finishes, including several Japan Special colourways.

Because it sinks on a predictable count rather than floating or diving on a lip, the CD9 lets anglers work a precise depth band through the water column, making it a versatile choice for searching out fish holding away from the surface.

Information

The swimming action

The balsa-wood body gives a lively, tight swimming wobble and a stable, countable sink rate, so the lure keeps working attractively all the way down as well as on the retrieve.

When to throw it

A go-to searching lure for seabass, useful whenever fish are holding away from the surface and a specific depth needs to be found and repeated on structure or open water.

How to work it

Count the lure down to the depth you want to fish, then retrieve steadily or with light twitches; because the sink rate is consistent, the same count reaches the same depth on every cast.

The setup it likes

A medium spinning rod (ML–M, 7.6–8.6ft) with a 2500–3000 reel, 8–10lb braid and a 16lb fluorocarbon leader suits this size.
