Description

Berkley Gulp! Jerk Shad 5inch is a slim, baitfish-shaped soft plastic from Berkley's Gulp! saltwater range, built with a slotted belly that accepts a range of rigs and jig heads and infused throughout with the Gulp! scent-dispersing formula. Each pack holds 5 baits and is sized for a 4/0 to 5/0 wide-gap hook.

An irregular dart action triggers reaction strikes on the pause, making it a natural match for a dart-style jig head (sold separately). It's available in five colourways — Blue Fuse, Blue Haze Fleck, Green Haze Fleck, Starry Night and Flamingo Flash — covering both natural baitfish presentations and higher-visibility options for murky water or low light.

Information

The swimming action

A slim, baitfish-shaped soft plastic with a slotted belly that accepts a range of rigs. It produces an irregular dart on the pause rather than a steady swim, which is what tends to trigger a reaction strike from a following fish.

When to throw it

A general-purpose inshore search bait suited to a wide range of species and light conditions, with natural and higher-visibility colourways covering clear water through to murky or low-light sessions, and useful year-round wherever a slim baitfish silhouette is likely to draw attention.

How to work it

Best rigged on a dart-style jig head sized to the #4/0-5/0 hook range, worked with a sharp twitch-and-pause retrieve so the dart action and pause both come into play, giving following fish a clear moment to strike as the bait kicks off to one side.

The setup it likes

A ML to M spinning or light baitcasting outfit around 7'0" suits this bait, matched to a 2500-3000 reel loaded with PE 0.8-1.5 braid or 10-14 lb fluorocarbon main line and finished with a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader to stand up to the target species.
