Description

The Berkley Gulp! Turbo Shrimp 4inch is a scent-infused soft plastic lure from Berkley's Gulp! Saltwater range, shaped to imitate a swimming shrimp — a profile favoured by rockfish, black bream (chinu) and flatfish. Its distinctive leg design mimics the motion of a real shrimp, creating a vibration action that disperses Gulp!'s scent formula to draw more fish, while a firm, resistant profile keeps the bait easy to work.

This 4inch size comes packed 4 to a bag and is suited to an offset hook around size 4/0. It can be worked with lift-and-fall, drag, stay and shake retrieves, and rigs equally well on a free rig, light Texas rig, direct rig or as a jighead trailer.

Information

The swimming action

The larger size in the Turbo Shrimp range, with the same leg design mimicking a swimming shrimp and creating a vibration that disperses scent from a bigger profile, giving off more water displacement than the 3 inch version at a similar cadence.

When to throw it

Favoured by rockfish, black bream (chinu) and flatfish over the same structure and sandy ground as the 3 inch size, with the extra bulk suited to bigger fish, deeper water or stronger current where a larger profile is easier to find.

How to work it

Works with lift-and-fall, drag, stay and shake retrieves, rigged on a free rig, light Texas rig, direct rig or as a jighead trailer around a #4/0 offset hook, pausing regularly to let the legs settle and the scent disperse fully.

The setup it likes

A slightly firmer ML rockfish or general-purpose spinning rod suits the bigger bait, matched to a 2500 reel loaded with PE 0.8-1.2 braid or 8-12 lb fluorocarbon main line and finished with an 8-12 lb fluorocarbon leader for extra abrasion resistance around structure.
