The Bitstream Jointed SJ70 is a 70 mm, 8 g sinking jointed minnow, built by Tackle House on the know-how the brand developed making minnows for big trout in mainstream rivers. It has a single hook, a jointed body and a fixed weight, and has been a mainstay for Hokkaido trout fishing.

Its sinking action lets it work the middle and bottom layers thoroughly, and the jointed body gives anglers a way to completely change their approach — useful under high fishing pressure or when targeting bigger trout.

The swimming action

The jointed body adds a tight, snake-like wiggle to the fixed-weight sinking minnow's swim, giving a livelier profile than a one-piece body of the same size. It settles and holds depth well, letting it be worked slowly through a chosen layer.

When to throw it

Built for Hokkaido-style river trout fishing in clear, moving water, and equally suited to mainstream rivers and lakes holding rainbow trout, char and yamame. It comes into its own once fish have seen plenty of standard minnows and need a different profile to react.

How to work it

Count it down to the target layer and work it with a slow, steady retrieve or gentle twitches, letting the joint do the work. Covering the middle and bottom of the water column thoroughly is the main strength of the sinking, jointed design.

The setup it likes

Pairs well with a light to ultralight trout spinning rod, a 1000-2500 reel, 2-4 lb (PE0.3-0.6) main line and a 4-6 lb fluorocarbon leader for delicate presentations in clear water.
