Description

The Original Floater is the balsa minnow that started Rapala's history, first hand-carved by Lauri Rapala in 1936. The F5 is a 5cm, 3g floating hardbait with a running depth of 0.9-1.5m and two No.10 trebles.

Its soft landing and darting, tight wobble on the retrieve imitate a struggling baitfish, making it a proven searching lure for trout and other freshwater predators working shallow water and structure.

Information

The swimming action

The Original Floater's natural balsa body gives a soft entry on the cast and a sharp, tight wobbling action on the retrieve that imitates a struggling baitfish, staying lively even worked slowly.

When to throw it

A proven searching lure for stream and lake trout over shallow flats, pools and structure, particularly useful when fish are holding just under the surface in clear, calm water.

How to work it

Fish it on a steady straight retrieve, or add occasional twitches and pauses to trigger a following trout; keep the retrieve slow enough for the tight wobble to stay visible without pulling the lure off track.

The setup it likes

A light 6'-6'6" L trout spinning rod, 1000-2000 size reel, 4-6 lb line and a short fluorocarbon leader suit these smaller sizes well.
