Description

The Rapala Original Floater F13 is one of the larger sizes in Rapala's original balsa floating minnow line, first created in 1936 by Lauri Rapala and still one of the brand's best-selling models worldwide. At 13cm and 7g, it runs 1.2–1.8m deep and carries three No.5 hooks.

Carved from natural balsa, it lands with a soft splash that doesn't spook wary fish, then delivers the sharp, lively wobbling action Rapala is renowned for, imitating an injured baitfish to draw strikes from larger fish-eating predators.

Information

The swimming action

The Original Floater's natural balsa body gives a soft landing on the cast and a sharp, lively wobbling action on the retrieve that imitates an injured baitfish, staying convincing even at a slow pace.

When to throw it

Suited to bigger stream and lake trout working open water, where the extra casting distance of this larger Original Floater size lets you cover more water while keeping the same time-proven floating minnow action.

How to work it

Fish it on a steady straight retrieve, or add occasional twitches and a stop-and-go cadence to trigger a following trout; keep the pace unhurried so the wobble stays tight and visible.

The setup it likes

A 6'6"-7' ML trout spinning rod, 2000-2500 size reel, 6-8 lb line and a light fluorocarbon leader suit these larger sizes.
