Information

The swimming action

Built on Blazeye's Evoroots 99VSP hull, this variable-suspend minnow sits between slow-floating and slow-sinking, holding its depth and posture through pauses rather than drifting up or down, which keeps it in a following fish's strike zone longer. That hang time is the main advantage a suspending minnow holds over a straight floating or sinking hull.

When to throw it

Aimed at seabass and other saltwater shore sportfish, it suits any shore mark where a suspending minnow's ability to hang in place through the pause is an advantage over a straight floating or sinking bait. It's a strong option specifically for pressured water where fish are used to following lures without committing, since the extended hang on the pause gives them more time to change their mind.

How to work it

Twitch-and-pause retrieves let the suspend tuning show its strength: work it with short twitches and give it time to hang between movements rather than retrieving continuously. Vary the length of the pause between twitches through a session, since how long a fish needs to commit can change with water temperature, clarity and fishing pressure on the day.

The setup it likes

A medium-power seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, PE0.6-1 braid and a 10-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the 99mm, 15g Evoroots 99VSP and its #3 hook. A rod with a soft enough tip to twitch the lure without over-driving the suspend action helps keep the hang natural rather than exaggerated.
