Information

The swimming action

A wide, flat-sided body throws strong flash on the retrieve and runs a double action that meanders erratically when wound quickly, while settling into a tighter, more controlled wobble at slower speeds. The flat sides catch and reflect light well, so the flash carries even in coloured or low-light water, which helps the lure stand out to a searching fish.

When to throw it

Seabass in open water and around structure, by day or night, when a compact minnow with strong flash is needed to search a wide area without losing presence near cover. It suits estuaries, harbour mouths and current lines where fish are spread out and a searching bait that still holds tight to structure is useful.

How to work it

Work a steady to fast straight retrieve to bring out the erratic double action, which imitates a fleeing baitfish under pressure. Ease off near structure for a tighter, slower wobble that still holds its flash, and add the occasional pause to let the body settle before winding back into the faster searching retrieve.

The setup it likes

A ML spinning rod matched to a 2500 size reel gives enough backbone for solid hook-sets without overpowering a light minnow. PE0.8-1.0 braid keeps the cast long and the action lively, and a 16-20lb fluorocarbon leader offers enough abrasion resistance for structure while staying light enough not to dull the wobble.
