Description

The Berkley Gulp! Jerk Shad 7inch is a scent-infused soft plastic lure from Berkley's Gulp! Saltwater range, cut with a slim baitfish profile built for a wide range of species and situations. An erratic dart action triggers reaction strikes, while a slotted belly design accepts a variety of rigs and jigheads.

This 7inch size comes packed 4 to a bag in Berkley's long package format and is suited to a hook around size 6/0–8/0. It's best paired with a dart-style jighead (sold separately).

Information

The swimming action

The larger size in the Jerk Shad line, keeping the same slim baitfish profile and slotted belly for easy rigging. The erratic dart on the pause is more pronounced at this size, giving a bigger target profile for larger predators.

When to throw it

A general-purpose bait for bigger inshore predators across a wide range of species and conditions, with the long-pack colourways covering natural and higher-visibility presentations for stained water, low light or deeper ground where a larger profile is needed to get noticed.

How to work it

Best matched to a dart-style jighead sized to the #6/0-8/0 hook range, worked with a firm twitch-and-pause retrieve to let the bigger profile dart and settle, pausing longer between twitches than the smaller size to give bigger, more deliberate predators time to close in.

The setup it likes

Step up to a M to MH spinning or baitcasting rod around 7'0"-7'6" for the bigger bait, paired with a 3000-4000 reel loaded with PE 1.0-2.0 braid as the main line and finished with a 16-20 lb fluorocarbon leader to cope with larger, harder-fighting fish.
