Description

The Dime 4 is a compact crankbait from Berkley's Dime series, weighing 2/5 oz (10g) and measuring 2 in (50mm) excluding the lip, with a diving depth of 4-6 ft. It uses a Flash Disc embedded in the belly for stability and a lower centre of gravity, plus a weight-transfer system for long, accurate casts, and is fitted with Fusion19 treble hooks.

Its slim, plastic-bodied build delivers a balsa-like action for shallow-water bass fishing.

Information

The swimming action

A Flash Disc embedded in the belly lowers the centre of gravity and stabilises the action, while a slim, plastic body delivers a balsa-like wobble more usually associated with wooden crankbaits, at a fraction of the cost.

When to throw it

Suited to shallow-water bass fishing in the 4-6ft range, over flats, along riprap and around shallow cover where a compact, castable crankbait can be worked without fouling on structure.

How to work it

A weight-transfer system gives long, accurate casts even into wind; wind it back on a steady retrieve and let the balsa-like roll do the work, pausing briefly if it deflects off cover to trigger a reaction strike.

The setup it likes

A medium-power crankbait casting rod with a moderate action, a 6.3:1-ish low-profile baitcaster, and 10-12lb fluorocarbon suit this compact bait's shallow diving range and light casting weight.
