Description

The Punch Line Slim 90 is a 90mm, 12g sinking pencil from Apia's Punch Line family, built with a slimmer profile than the standard Punch Line body. The slim shape lets it imitate bachi (marine worms) and micro-baitfish, giving seabass an easier target to commit to when they're keyed onto small, selective prey.

Its S-shaped tight slalom action combined with a rolling fall makes it effective working the mid-water column down to the bottom, and the added weight over typical slim sinking pencils helps it punch out longer casts and hold depth in current. Rigged with twin #10 BKK FANGS-62UA hooks.

Information

The swimming action

The Punch Line Slim 90 is a sinking pencil with a slimmer profile than the standard Punch Line, running a tight S-shaped slalom with a rolling fall aimed at imitating bachi worms and micro-baitfish. This gives the bait a believable, repeatable character in the water rather than a gimmick action, which tends to hold up better once fish have seen a few casts go past.

When to throw it

It suits situations where seabass are keyed onto small, selective prey and need an easier target to commit to, working the mid-water column down to the bottom in harbours and calmer stretches. It is a sensible lure to keep rigged and ready rather than a narrow specialist, since the conditions it suits come up often enough across a normal session.

How to work it

Work it with a steady retrieve through the mid layers, letting the tight slalom and rolling fall present a slim, easy target; the added weight over typical slim pencils helps it punch out longer casts and hold depth in current.

The setup it likes

A 7.5-8.5ft seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, 10-14lb braid and a 14-16lb fluorocarbon leader suit this lure's weight and finesse presentation. This setup keeps enough sensitivity to register a light take while still carrying enough reserve power to keep a fish clear of nearby structure.
