Description

The Apia Punch Line 60 is a 60 mm, 5 g sinking pencil that shares its purpose-designed moulded weight with the Punch Line 45, giving the compact body a genuine S-curve slalom retrieve with a rolling fall and casting distance beyond what its size suggests.

It is built for surface-to-mid-layer work around harbours and shallow ground, covering seabass among other light-game targets, including bait-fish schools and worm-hatch (bachi) situations. Each lure carries a pair of #12 BKK Fangs-62 UA trebles.

Information

The swimming action

The Punch Line is a sinking pencil built around a flat-faced head that gives constant contact through the retrieve, tracing a gentle S-curve slalom with a rolling fall on the pause, letting anglers read water flow and current changes through the rod.

When to throw it

It covers harbours, shallow ground, surf and rocky shorelines, working water 3m deep or less, and suits situations from bait-fish schools and worm hatches (bachi) up to open surf and river-mouth seabass. It is worth having rigged before a session starts, since the situations it covers are common enough that reaching for it mid-session often costs a missed window.

How to work it

Work it with a straight retrieve, a drift, or a slack-line fall depending on conditions; the rolling, horizontal fall on the pause gives fish a long look in slack current, and the flat head lets you feel changes in flow through the rod.

The setup it likes

A 7.5-9ft seabass or surf spinning rod scaled to the lure's weight, a 2500-4000 reel, 10-16lb braid and a fluorocarbon leader of 14-20lb suit the range from the smallest to the largest model. That balance of rod, reel and line keeps casting accuracy high without sacrificing the strength needed to see a decent fish through to the net or the wall.
