Description

The Apia Punch Line 130 is a heavyweight sinking pencil measuring 130mm and weighing 36g, built to cast long distances into wind while still holding a genuine swimming action. It runs an S-shape slalom with a rolling fall, and its through-wire construction and #2 twin-hook rigging (BKK FANGS-62UA) are built for rough-water abuse on rock and surf marks.

It suits ocean-facing surf, rocky shorelines and the fast currents of large river mouths, where its flat-faced head shape reads current and resistance clearly on the retrieve. Anglers can work it with a straight retrieve, a drift, or a slack-line fall, making it a versatile choice for seabass and other powerful surf and rock-shore predators.

Information

The swimming action

The Punch Line is a sinking pencil built around a flat-faced head that gives constant contact through the retrieve, tracing a gentle S-curve slalom with a rolling fall on the pause, letting anglers read water flow and current changes through the rod.

When to throw it

It covers harbours, shallow ground, surf and rocky shorelines, working water 3m deep or less, and suits situations from bait-fish schools and worm hatches (bachi) up to open surf and river-mouth seabass. It is a sensible lure to keep rigged and ready rather than a narrow specialist, since the conditions it suits come up often enough across a normal session.

How to work it

Work it with a straight retrieve, a drift, or a slack-line fall depending on conditions; the rolling, horizontal fall on the pause gives fish a long look in slack current, and the flat head lets you feel changes in flow through the rod.

The setup it likes

A 7.5-9ft seabass or surf spinning rod scaled to the lure's weight, a 2500-4000 reel, 10-16lb braid and a fluorocarbon leader of 14-20lb suit the range from the smallest to the largest model. This setup keeps enough sensitivity to register a light take while still carrying enough reserve power to keep a fish clear of nearby structure.
