Description

The Abu Garcia ZoomSafari (ZoomSafari) is an all-purpose multi-piece travel rod built to work regardless of location, fish species, or fishing method — from sea to river, pond, and lake, with bait, lure, casting, or float fishing. This listing covers ZMSS-404UL (4'0"/122cm, 4-piece, Ultra-Light, targeting goby/haze, aji/horse mackerel, trout, bass, and rockfish/nezakana), ZMSS-605L (6'0"/183cm, 5-piece, Light, targeting aji, mebaru/rockfish, trout, bass, seabass, mekki/juvenile trevally, rockfish/nezakana, and squid), ZMSS-705ML (7'0"/213cm, 5-piece, Medium-Light, targeting trout, bass, carp, mekki/juvenile trevally, kurodai/black seabream, squid, seabass, and tachiuo/beltfish), and ZMSS-505L.

Blanks use carbon 95%/glass 5% tubular construction with a spigot-joint (inro-tsugi) connection for a smooth bend through the joint, Fuji O-ring guides, and a Swedish-crown crest mark on the butt end; each rod ships with a dedicated canvas rod bag.

Information

The blank

A carbon-95%/glass-5% tubular blank with a spigot-joint connection is built to bend smoothly through the joint rather than stacking stiffness at each ferrule, giving a natural, even action despite being a multi-piece travel rod. In the hand it feels purposeful rather than flashy, doing what its stated construction promises without surprises through a normal session.

What it's built for

An all-purpose travel rod covering sea, river, pond and lake in one package: the compact ZMSS-404UL suits goby, aji and small trout and bass; the ZMSS-605L adds mebaru, seabass and squid; and the ZMSS-705ML extends to kurodai, tachiuo and carp.

How it fishes

Match technique to the water in front of you on any given day, from a gentle twitch for rockfish and trout to a steadier wind for bass and seabass, since the rod is built to adapt rather than specialise. Watch how fish respond on the day and be ready to slow down or speed up the retrieve accordingly.

The setup it likes

A compact 1000-2500 size spinning reel with light line suits all three lengths, and each rod ships with its own canvas bag for travel between very different fishing situations. Fine-tune the exact line class and leader strength to local structure and the average size of fish you expect to meet.
