Description

The Stinger Butterfly TG Gatling, model JT-808Q at 80g, is a multi-faceted, short-body jig with an internal high-density tungsten weight that concentrates the centre of gravity for an easy-to-trigger action and a compact profile suited to micro-bait patterns. The faceted body is reflective on all sides (top, bottom, left and right) to scatter light across a wide area, and a slightly concave side-flat section improves the jig's grip on the water. A tungsten composite, left-right symmetrical, rear-weighted design gives a fast fall that suits straight, tight jerks from a no-slack retrieve through half-pitch and short-pitch actions.

Shimano lists it as effective for tachiuo (tachiuo/hairtail), seabass, madai (madai/red seabream), isaki (isaki/grunt), aomono (aomono/blue-water species) and nezakana (nezakana/rockfish), and notes it pairs well with a rear-eye "Blade Tune" setup for deep blade jigging.

Information

The swimming action

The TG Gatling's tungsten weight sits low and central in a short, multi-faceted body, giving a fast, erratic fall and an easy-to-trigger flutter on the jerk rather than a wide, slow glide. Faceted sides throw flash in every direction, and a slightly concave flat improves bite on the retrieve.

When to throw it

Built for vertical jigging over structure and bait schools where tachiuo, seabass, madai, isaki, aomono and bottom-dwelling rockfish are holding, with the compact tungsten body suited to imitating small, dense bait balls rather than large baitfish.

How to work it

Work it with straight, tight jerks on a no-slack line through half-pitch and short-pitch cadences, letting the jig fall on a controlled, semi-slack line between strokes; a rear-eye assist rig also suits slower blade-style jigging.

The setup it likes

Suits a jigging rod rated to around 80-120g, paired with a 4000-6000 size spinning or small overhead reel, PE 1.5-2.5 braid and a 30-40lb fluorocarbon leader.
