Description

The S-Plug is a 2.2g area spoon from Rob Lure, sold in packs of 3. The maker's own page describes it as a spoon built to bridge the gap between spoon and plug fishing (“Spoon→Plug”), designed to work well on stocked and second-wave stocked trout.

Rob Lure developed it to give anglers a spoon that keeps pace with highly active fish, where plug fishing can otherwise feel slow to work through the water. It induces a slide on the retrieve, letting the angler control the swimming action through rod angle.

Information

The swimming action

S-Plug 2.2g is a spoon built to bridge spoon and plug fishing, inducing a slide on the retrieve that the angler can steer through rod angle rather than a fixed wobble.

When to throw it

Aimed at stocked and second-wave stocked trout that want a faster presentation than a plug, with the extra weight over the 1.8g version helping on windier days or for longer casts.

How to work it

Retrieve it faster than a typical spoon and use rod angle to control the sliding action; sold three to a pack for quick colour changes.

The setup it likes

Suits a light L area rod, 1000–2000 size reel, 2–3 lb line and no leader for stocked-pond trout.
