Information

The swimming action

Built as the saltwater-scaled version of the Chug Bug, it sits vertically at rest and throws a big splash from its cup face, with the extra size and weight giving it more casting distance and a louder pop.

When to throw it

Suited to seabass fishing and offshore casting games where fleeing baitfish are being imitated on the surface, particularly around structure, current edges and bait schools in open coastal water.

How to work it

A fast-tempo popping action worked with sharp rod strokes and pauses imitates fleeing baitfish; its bigger cup face throws a bigger splash than the freshwater sizes, useful for calling fish from further away.

The setup it likes

A medium-heavy to heavy spinning rod built for topwater work suits the larger hooks and casting weight, matched to 20–30 lb braid with a heavy fluorocarbon leader on a 4000–5000 size reel.
