Description

The Mugen Purefune III Purple Edition (3rd-Gen Mugen Purefune Purple Edition) is Gokuspe's representative glass-solid multipurpose boat rod, now in its third generation. It keeps the 6:4 action that flexes smoothly through the blank under load, while a lighter build and an aluminum reel seat improve handling and reel fit.

The rod is built for drop-fishing, live-bait (Nomase), and chum fishing; the 80-go class also handles tenbin-rigged amadai fishing, and the 120-go class extends to mid-depth akamutsu fishing alongside yellowtail and large tai on nomase/komase tackle. The maker lists target species as aomono (blue-back pelagics), bonito, kimeji (young yellowfin tuna), akamutsu (blackthroat seaperch), squid, and light-game species.

This listing stocks the 195cm and 245cm lengths in the 80/100/120-go weight classes, and the 215cm length in the 80/100-go weight classes, all in the Purple Edition colorway.

Information

The blank

The glass-solid blank carries a 6:4 action that flexes progressively from tip through mid-section, giving a soft, forgiving bend that lets fish take bait without feeling resistance. A lighter build and aluminium reel seat keep it comfortable through long sessions at anchor or on the drift.

What it's built for

Suited to drop-fishing, live-bait (nomase) and chum (komase) fishing over structure and reef edges. The 80号 class handles tenbin-rigged amadai fishing, the 120号 class extends to mid-depth akamutsu, yellowtail and large tai, while lighter setups cover mixed light-game bycatch.

How it fishes

Work bait or jigs with a slow lift-and-drop through the water column rather than an active retrieve, letting the parabolic bend telegraph subtle bites. Use a steady sweep rather than a hard strike on the hookset, which suits the softer tip and avoids pulling hooks from bony-mouthed species.

The setup it likes

Pair the 80/100号 classes with a small-to-mid boat baitcaster on PE2–PE4 and a fluorocarbon leader; step up to PE4–PE6 and a heavier leader for the 120号 class.
