Description

The Jigpara Surf is Major Craft's minnow-style metal jig built specifically for surf casting, with a rear-weighted, slim body designed for long-distance casts and a fitted blade that adds extra appeal on a slow retrieve. This 40g size comes in three colourways: Blue Pink, Blue Candy, and the lifelike Live Gold Mackerel (Kaimura) from the range's live-bait series.

It's designed for surf fishing, where flatfish such as flounder are the primary target and a natural, minnow-like swimming action combined with a metal jig's castability is needed to reach beyond the breakers and work the rip currents and troughs of the surf zone.

The swimming action

A minnow-style metal jig with a rear-weighted, slim body built for long-distance casting, fitted with a blade that adds extra flash and vibration on a slow retrieve. It flies flat and far, then settles into a natural, minnow-like swimming action.

When to throw it

Purpose-built for surf casting where flatfish (flounder) are the primary target, giving the distance to reach beyond the breakers and work rip currents and troughs that shore-bound anglers otherwise can't cover with a soft-plastic rig.

How to work it

Cast as far as possible past the break, let it sink to the bottom, then work it with a slow, steady retrieve so the blade keeps ticking over; pause occasionally to let it flutter down over likely holding troughs.

The setup it likes

Matches a surf or beach spinning rod (M to MH), a 4000-5000 reel, PE 1.2-2.0 braid and a 16-25 lb fluorocarbon leader, sizing up leader and rod power with the heavier 35-40g sizes.
