Description

The Jackall Big Backer Jig 60g is a 78 mm, 60 g sinking metal jig from Jackall's Big Backer Jig series, part of the brand's shore-casting Blue Fish lineup. Its rear-weighted body is tuned for long casting distance, and it comes standard with a rear-mounted #5 treble hook.

Jackall designs the Big Backer Jig to be fished with a straight retrieve after a long cast, one-pitch jerks, or a lift-and-fall action, and lists it as effective across a wide range of species from blue-fish to flatfish, rockfish, red seabream and hairtail. The 60g size is the heaviest weight in the range, suited to longer casts and stronger currents.

Information

The swimming action

A rear-weighted body is tuned for long, flat casting distance and a fast sink rate, getting the jig down into the strike zone quickly after a long throw from the shore.

When to throw it

Surf and shore casting for pelagic species, with flatfish, rockfish, red seabream and hairtail also noted as effective targets depending on how it is worked, making it a genuine all-round shore metal for mixed-species marks.

How to work it

Fish it with a straight retrieve after a long cast, one-pitch jerks, or a lift-and-fall presentation, adjusting to match the target species and how fish are responding on the day.

The setup it likes

Suits a shore-jigging rod around M-MH power, a 3000-4000 reel, PE1-1.5 or 12-16 lb main line, and a fluorocarbon leader of similar strength, strong enough to turn a big fish away from structure.
