Description

Designed by Toshifumi Kikumoto as a rubber jig trailer, the Ant Lion 3.3 is the larger 3.3in size of this soft plastic (8 per pack), sharing the rear-weighted, claw-first body shape that gives it surprising castability. Two differently shaped claws — a slim rabbit-ear pair at the head and a crescent pair on the body — create complex water flow while swimming and produce a time-lagged, collapsing action on the pause, while four tentacles and two whiskers add fine, independent micro-vibration.

It works just as well rigged solo on a drop-shot, Carolina, split-shot or light Texas rig as it does threaded onto a jig as a trailer, and is built to draw bites from largemouth and smallmouth bass keyed on shrimp, goby or even smelt across clear water, muddy shallows and current.

Information

The swimming action

The rear-weighted, claw-first body casts well for its size and produces complex water flow from its two differently shaped claw pairs, with a time-lagged, collapsing action on the pause. Four tentacles and two whiskers add fine, independent micro-vibration, scaled up from the smaller Ant Lion 2.7 for extra bulk.

When to throw it

Suits largemouth and smallmouth bass keyed on shrimp, goby or smelt across clear water, muddy shallows and current. The larger size adds bulk and profile over the 2.7in version for when a bigger presentation is wanted without losing the same action.

How to work it

Fish it solo on a drop-shot, Carolina, split-shot or light Texas rig, or thread it onto a jig as a trailer. Let it sit still to let the claws and tentacles work on their own, using the pause as the main trigger rather than constant movement.

The setup it likes

A medium spinning rod with 8-10lb fluorocarbon suits finesse rigs at this size, moving up to a medium to medium-heavy baitcasting rod with 12lb line when used as a jig trailer. Match hook or jig head weight to the depth and cover being fished.
