Description

The Engine Shake Craw2 is a deep-water soft craw developed with input from guide Kazuto Hanyu, aimed at the autumn-to-deep-winter deep-structure fishing that Hanyu says is essential for consistent results on Chiba's Kameyama and the wider Boso reservoir group. It's designed and refined specifically for use in combination with a small rubber jig or jig head.

Its namesake shake action, driven by its two claws, produces a vibration ENGINE built to draw bites from active bass, and the design carries over well to fisheries beyond the Boso reservoirs. Measuring 2in, it's sold in packs of 8 and manufactured to FECO standards. ENGINE recommends a SUPERIOR LO #3 or #4 hook for standard offset rigging, a SUPERIOR M-II #8 or #10 for masu-bari rigging, or a #3 jig head hook.

That kind of natural, believable movement gives line-shy bass on pressured water extra time to look the bait over and commit before it swims or falls past them.

When to throw it

Aimed at autumn-to-deep-winter deep-structure fishing on reservoirs, designed and refined specifically for use with a small rubber jig or jig head. It also holds up across a full bass season, from pre-spawn staging areas through summer cover and into the cooling water of autumn, rather than suiting one narrow window.

How to work it

Fish as a trailer on a small rubber jig or jig head with a shaking retrieve along the bottom, letting the claws produce the vibration on each shake. Vary the cadence and the length of the pause between casts until you find what is drawing bites that day, since bass response to speed can change through a session.

A medium spinning or baitcasting rod, 10-14 lb fluorocarbon and a Superior LO #3-#4, M-II #8-#10, or #3 jig head suit this deep-structure craw. Round the outfit off with a smooth drag and a rod tip soft enough to load up properly before the hookset drives home on a finesse presentation.
