Aimed at seabass that follow a lure without committing to the strike, it suits slack pools, harbour corners and calm surface water where a subtle, sustained surface presence can switch on a half-hearted fish. It's best reached for specifically in the conditions that defeat most other surface lures — dead calm harbour corners, slack tide windows, and current-free pools where a lure needs to work on its own.

Retrieve it dead slow and let the jointed action do the work rather than adding extra rod movement; in genuinely current-free water this is often the only way to keep a following fish interested long enough to strike. Resist twitching it for extra action, since the joints are tuned to do that work on their own.

A medium-power seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, PE0.8-1 braid and a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the 135mm, 33g Mujyaki in typical seabass water.
