Eclipse Astraia 127F HiBeat

The Astraia 127F HiBeat produces a medium wobble-roll action with a strong water push, built to stand apart from the subtler shallow runners that dominate the category. On a dead-slow retrieve through slack water it holds a slow, enticing wobble that transmits clearly back through the rod tip.

A shallow-running minnow suited to drift-style presentations through slack water or up-current retrieves, it targets wary, oversized seabass that have grown used to subtler lures and respond better to a stronger push of water. It's best treated as a specialist tool for fish that have already refused a subtler shallow runner, rather than a first-choice search bait for an unpressured stretch of river, surf or rocky shoreline.

Switch between slow and fast retrieves to trigger reaction bites: work it dead slow through slack sections and up-current stretches for the enticing wobble, then speed up when a fish is following but not committing. Pause briefly between speed changes rather than transitioning smoothly, since the moment a following fish sees the retrieve shift is often what converts a follow into an actual strike on this lure.

A medium-power seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, PE0.8-1 braid and a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the 127mm, 18.5g size and the Gamakatsu SP-MH #4 hook it's fitted with. A softer rod tip helps protect light hooks on a strong take, and checking the split ring after a big fish is worthwhile given how much load a sudden HiBeat strike can put through it.
