Information

The swimming action

Uprizing is a sinking vibration bait from Apia that runs a compact, efficient vibration action covering the water column on both the retrieve and the fall, with larger sizes stepping up to a stronger pulling thump for more casting distance.

When to throw it

It suits seabass keyed onto small, easy prey when a subtler thump is needed, and stepping up in size and weight covers deeper water, faster current and lower light where more pull and casting distance help. It is worth having rigged before a session starts, since the situations it covers are common enough that reaching for it mid-session often costs a missed window.

How to work it

Work it on a straight retrieve to cover water fast, or let it fall through the column on a semi-slack line; the vibration thump gives fish plenty to key onto in coloured or low-light water. Varying the pace and the length of each pause through a session is usually the quickest way to work out what the fish want on a given day.

The setup it likes

A 7-8ft seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, 10-14lb braid and a 14-18lb fluorocarbon leader suit the lighter sizes, stepping up leader strength slightly for the heavier Heavy Weight version in deep or fast-flowing water. That balance of rod, reel and line keeps casting accuracy high without sacrificing the strength needed to see a decent fish through to the net or the wall.
