A sinking pencil that swims with a subtle side-to-side roll on a straight fall, then switches to a high-appeal, minnow-like dart-and-slide with a head-slap when jerked or twitched.

When to throw it

Light-tackle inshore seabass work around structure, current seams and river mouths, where a compact pencil that also sinks helps cover different depths on one retrieve.

How to work it

Jerk-and-pause on a slack line to trigger the dart-and-slide, then let it fall on a semi-slack line between jerks so it flutters down rather than pulling tight.

The setup it likes
