Description

The Timon Prikkey is a 30mm, 1.6g floating crankbait from JACKALL's TIMON trout series, built around a long lip that isn't there to dive but to keep biting into the water even on a dead-slow retrieve, shaking its small, chilli-pepper-shaped body — the source of the Prikkey name — from side to side for a distinctive wobble. It comes fitted with TIMON's QR-HOOK front and rear for improved hook-up rates.

Simply raising or lowering the rod tip lets anglers work everything from the surface down to around 1.2m with the same lure, and the Prikkey really comes into its own when trout have gone off the bite, its dead-slow shimmy drawing strikes from wary, heavily pressured fish. It is available in a range of official TIMON colourways.

Information

The swimming action

The Prikkey's long lip keeps biting into the water even on a dead-slow retrieve, shaking its small, chilli-pepper-shaped body from side to side for a distinctive, tight wobble. QR-Hook front and rear trebles are fitted for improved hook-up rates on a lure built around a deliberately slow, deep-biting action.

When to throw it

Turn to the Prikkey when trout have gone off the bite after pressure or a cold front, since its dead-slow shimmy is built to draw strikes from wary, heavily fished fish. It suits area ponds and stocked lakes where faster cranks and spoons have already been shown to the fish.

How to work it

Raise or lower the rod tip to work the same lure from the surface down to around 1.2 m, keeping the retrieve as slow as the lip will allow — that dead-slow crawl is where the Prikkey earns its keep, rather than a searching, faster retrieve.

The setup it likes

A light area-trout spinning rod (UL–L), 1000–2000 size reel, 2–3 lb main line and a similar-class fluorocarbon leader give enough tip softness to work the lure dead slow without pulling it away from feeding fish.
