Information

The swimming action

The Babel V3 1.1g is the heaviest weight in Rob Lure's Babel V3 spoon line, an ultra-light area spoon that falls with a slow, fluttering wobble. The added weight gives easier casting and a slightly faster fall than the lighter V3 sizes, while keeping the same fluttering style.

When to throw it

Best suited to stocked area-lake trout under calm, clear-water conditions where fish have already seen heavier spoons and standard retrieves. Useful year-round at these venues, particularly when trout turn finicky after pressure earlier in the session.

How to work it

Cast out and let it fall on a semi-slack line, watching the line for a take on the drop. A slow figure-of-eight or occasional twitch-and-pause across bottom structure can draw reaction bites once the initial fall has been covered.

The setup it likes

Pairs with a light area-trout spinning rod (UL power), a 1000–2000 size reel, and 2–3 lb fluorocarbon or monofilament main line fished direct without a separate leader.
