Description

COUNTER BACK (カウンターバック) is a big spoon designed by pro angler Kyoya Fujita for bass that "only eat a big spoon." Its asymmetrical body doesn't receive water evenly, so instead of fluttering it moves straight into a self-initiated backslide fall, pulling the line out even without tension on it.

The cupped body shape and precise body thickness drive a clean rolling action into an angled backslide fall, tuned to trigger bites quickly while staying at a fall speed bass can catch up to. A face is styled on the hook side of the body, unusual for a big spoon, to suggest a baitfish fleeing toward the bottom. A swivel eye reduces line twist and lost fish, and a tinsel-dressed hook adds action and vibration that helps trigger bites. It measures 120mm and weighs 38g (sinking), and is Feco-certified for JB/NBC tournament use.

The swimming action

An asymmetrical, cupped body doesn't fall evenly, so instead of fluttering it rolls cleanly into a self-initiated backslide, pulling line out on the fall even without tension held on it from the rod.

When to throw it

Built for bass that ignore smaller baits and only respond to a big spoon, suited to open water and along breaklines where a slow, controlled backslide fall can be worked at depth over structure.

How to work it

Cast, let it fall on a controlled semi-slack line to bring out the backslide, and use the tinsel-dressed hook's added vibration on the sink to trigger bites from fish tracking the fall.
