Description

The Evergreen Grass Ripper 3/8oz is a skirted rubber jig designed by pro angler Kenta Onishi, built around a narrow, triangular head that slips into grass and cover and pulls back out again, with a V-keel underside and a compact, low-centre-of-gravity rear. It carries a heavy 4/0 wire hook shared across the whole Grass Ripper range, a wire keeper that holds the trailer securely without splitting it, and a silicone rubber skirt set behind a firm brush guard that can be trimmed back for softer presentations.

It can be hopped as a reaction jig that pops up and drops straight back down through weed, or retrieved as a swimming jig with a shad-tail trailer, where the head's flat side panels generate a wobbling, water-pushing action. Aimed at bass fishing around grass, bushes, reeds and other heavy cover.

Information

The swimming action

The Grass Ripper's narrow, triangular head with a V-keel underside slips into and out of grass and cover cleanly, while a compact, low-centre-of-gravity rear lets it pop up and drop straight back down on the hop, or swim with a wobbling, water-pushing action off a shad-tail trailer.

When to throw it

Aimed at bass fishing around grass, bushes, reeds and other heavy cover, the 3/8oz size fishes lighter cover or shallower water while still hopping and swimming cleanly through weed.

How to work it

Hop it through weed for a sharp rise-and-fall reaction bite, or retrieve it steadily with a shad-tail trailer so the head's flat side panels add a wobbling swim; the brush guard can be trimmed back for softer, cold-water presentations.

The setup it likes

A medium-heavy casting rod around 7ft with a 7:1 baitcasting reel and 14-17lb fluorocarbon suits this 3/8oz jig for pitching and swimming through moderate cover, with enough backbone to drive the hook home through a bulky trailer and cover.
