Information

The swimming action

Fins running down both sides of the body stir the water to mimic genuine squid movement, while a ribbed-edge tail flickers with slight, lifelike action rather than a strong swimming kick. That combination of profile and action is built to stand out to predatory fish scanning open water or a current seam for an easy meal.

When to throw it

Imitates a food source preyed on by a wide range of predatory fish, useful wherever squid form part of the local forage, from inshore rock marks to open structure. Useful across a range of inshore marks - beaches, harbour walls, river mouths and rock structure - wherever the target species are feeding on baitfish or similar prey.

How to work it

Rig on a jighead or Texas rig and work it with a slow, steady retrieve or gentle lift-and-fall, letting the side fins and tail do the work of imitating a drifting squid. Vary retrieve speed and the length of any pause across a session, since the right cadence on a given tide or light level often takes some finding.

The setup it likes

A medium-power spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, 8-14 lb main line and a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the range of jighead and Texas rigging this bait can be fished on. Match rod power and line class to the venue and the size of fish expected, keeping enough reserve in the leader to handle structure and sudden runs.
