Information

The swimming action

The shad body is shaped to generate maximum vibration in the water on the retrieve, giving a strong, easily located thump that carries even at a slow swimming speed. That combination of profile and action is built to stand out to predatory fish scanning open water or a current seam for an easy meal.

When to throw it

Suits a wide range of rigging from a no-sinker rig to a heavy jighead, and swims well weightless on the surface, making it useful for sight fishing as well as blind-casting inshore water. Useful across a range of inshore marks - beaches, harbour walls, river mouths and rock structure - wherever the target species are feeding on baitfish or similar prey.

How to work it

Fish with a steady straight retrieve to keep the tail thumping, or work it weightless on the surface with occasional twitches when fish are visibly feeding up top. Vary retrieve speed and the length of any pause across a session, since the right cadence on a given tide or light level often takes some finding.

The setup it likes

A medium-power spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, 8-14 lb (PE 0.8-1.2) main line and a 12-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit both the no-sinker and jighead rigging this shad is built for. Match rod power and line class to the venue and the size of fish expected, keeping enough reserve in the leader to handle structure and sudden runs.
