Information

The swimming action

A round pin tail produces extremely natural, small-scale vibrations that imitate a drifting whitebait, rather than a strong swimming kick, keeping the presentation subtle and true to the small sardines it is designed to mimic. That kind of natural, unhurried presentation matters most in clear, calm water where fish get a long, close look at a bait before deciding whether to eat it.

When to throw it

A long-standing favourite among mebaru specialists in Japan, effective on the same marks and conditions mebaru anglers already fish - harbour walls, breakwaters and rock edges - particularly when small whitebait are present. It is worth carrying a small spread of jighead weights and colours to cover the different current strengths and light levels you meet across a session.

How to work it

Rig on a light jighead and fish with a slow, steady retrieve or a gentle lift-and-fall, letting the pin tail's fine vibration do the work rather than adding extra rod movement. Keep the rod tip low and watch the line closely, since bites from light-game species often show up as nothing more than a faint tap or a slight change in tension.

The setup it likes

A dedicated mebaru rod around UL to L power, a 1000-2000 reel, 2-4 lb (PE 0.2-0.4) main line and a 2-4 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the light jigheads this bait is fished on. A soft, forgiving rod tip helps cushion light hooks and fine leaders so fish stay pinned all the way back to the net or rock ledge.

How is it priced?

We give you the cheapest available price, as we get it directly from the distributors. You pay what an angler in Japan pays, plus postage.

How long does delivery take?

Australia and the US: 7 to 14 business days on Standard or Economy, 2 to 7 on Express EMS. Europe and the UK: 10 to 20 business days, 3 to 7 on EMS. Every option is priced at checkout before you pay.
