Ecogear Kasago Shokunin Rock Max 2

A thick curly tail produces strong wave vibrations even at this compact size, while a side wing steadies the swim and limits body roll so the vibration stays consistent through the retrieve rather than spinning off-line. That kind of natural, unhurried presentation matters most in clear, calm water where fish get a long, close look at a bait before deciding whether to eat it.

Built specifically for kasago (rockfish) working close-quarters rock and structure, suited to short-range casts around harbour walls, breakwaters and reef edges where a stable close-range presentation matters more than casting distance. It is worth carrying a small spread of jighead weights and colours to cover the different current strengths and light levels you meet across a session.

Rig on a light jighead and work it with a slow, steady retrieve close to structure, or hop it along the bottom with pauses; the side wing keeps the tail action steady at low speed. Keep the rod tip low and watch the line closely, since bites from light-game species often show up as nothing more than a faint tap or a slight change in tension.

A rockfish spinning rod around L power, a 2000 reel, 3-5 lb main line and a 3-5 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the light jigheads this compact grub is paired with. A soft, forgiving rod tip helps cushion light hooks and fine leaders so fish stay pinned all the way back to the net or rock ledge.
