Description

The Kasago Shokunin Mini Tank 1-1/2″ is a compact soft plastic lure from Ecogear's rockfish-specialist Kasago Shokunin line, realistically imitating small crabs, the main bait of rock fish. It measures 37mm (1-1/2″) with 8 pieces per pack.

It's recommended to be used with a jighead rig using a slide fall, and is also very effective as a small rubber jig trailer specifically for rock fish. The colour lineup was selected in collaboration with rockfish specialist anglers from across Japan.

Information

The swimming action

A compact, crab-shaped body is built to slide fall on a jighead with minimal drift, imitating the small crabs kasago feed on close to structure. As a rubber jig trailer it adds bulk and crab-like appendages without overpowering the jig's own action.

When to throw it

Aimed squarely at kasago (rockfish) feeding on small crabs around rock and reef structure, useful year-round and especially productive fished tight to cover after dark. It is worth carrying a small spread of jighead weights and colours to cover the different current strengths and light levels you meet across a session.

How to work it

Best fished on a slide-fall retrieve: lift and let the jighead sink on a controlled line so the bait settles naturally near structure, or thread it onto a small rubber jig as a trailer and work it slowly along the bottom.

The setup it likes

A rockfish spinning rod around L power, a 2000 reel, 3-5 lb main line and a 3-5 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the light jigheads and small rubber jigs this bait is paired with. A soft, forgiving rod tip helps cushion light hooks and fine leaders so fish stay pinned all the way back to the net or rock ledge.
