Information

The swimming action

Made from Ecogear's hybrid bait-and-lure material, the Ring Max 3 pairs a ribbed body with a simple curl tail built with a careful balance of thickness and weight, producing a slide fall that gives fish an automatic bite chance as it sinks.

When to throw it

Its hybrid material combines the scent and texture of natural bait with the durability of a soft plastic, suiting rock, reef and structure marks where a bait's fall as much as its retrieve needs to draw a strike. It suits the same rock, reef and structure marks as any Ecogear ring-tail plastic, and is worth reaching for when a scent-active hybrid material might tip the balance on a slow day.

How to work it

Let it slide-fall on a semi-slack line along structure, then lift and let it fall again, using the fall itself as the main trigger rather than a swimming retrieve. Let the slide-fall run its full course rather than cutting it short with an early lift, since the automatic bite chance it's built to create happens specifically during that fall.

The setup it likes

A light-to-medium rockfish spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, PE0.6-1 braid and a 6-10 lb fluorocarbon leader suit this 75mm hybrid plastic on a light jighead or rig. A light-to-medium spinning outfit matched to the jighead weight in use lets the slide-fall behave naturally without being overpowered by tackle that's too heavy for the presentation.
