Description

The Ecogear Jukusei Aqua Milfle 3.3 is an 82mm soft plastic lure from the JUKUSEI AQUA range, combining a hybrid bait-and-lure material with a characteristic rib and a sharp curly tail that creates a wake full of energy once it hits the current.

Curly tail lures are often criticised for poor castability, but the Milfle's design is built to resolve that issue while still delivering the same lively tail action.

Information

The swimming action

A hybrid bait-and-lure material is paired with a characteristic rib and a sharp curly tail that creates an energetic wake in current, with the design built to resolve the poor castability curly-tail lures are often criticised for. That improved castability matters in practice, since a curly-tail bait that fouls or spins on the cast is of little use regardless of how well its tail performs once it's fishing.

When to throw it

A general-purpose light-game and rockfish soft plastic, it suits structure, harbour walls and current seams where a lively, current-activated tail action helps draw fish out from cover. It suits any structure-based light-game or rockfish session where a lively, current-activated tail is wanted, and works equally well from a boat or from the shore.

How to work it

Fish it on a jighead with a steady swimming retrieve to let the curly tail work in the current, or slow down and add lifts over structure to trigger a following fish. Let it settle briefly in current seams rather than retrieving continuously, since the curly tail generates most of its wake and vibration when water is actively moving past it.

The setup it likes

A light-to-medium rockfish spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, PE0.6-1 braid and a 6-10 lb fluorocarbon leader suit this 82mm plastic on a matched jighead. A light-to-medium spinning outfit and a jighead matched to current speed let the curly tail work at its best without being swept out of the target zone too quickly.
