Information

The swimming action

A HYBRID bait-and-lure material combines the scent and texture of natural bait with the durability of a soft plastic, carried on the same crustacean-imitating, multi-legged Bug Ants profile for strong presence around structure. The scent-active hybrid material is a deliberate step up from a standard unscented plastic, aimed at giving fish an extra reason to hold on a fraction longer during the strike.

When to throw it

Built to target fish that feed on crustaceans, it works confidently in both saltwater and freshwater, suiting rock, reef and structure marks where a scent-active bait gives an edge over a standard plastic. It suits the same rock, reef and structure water as a standard Bug Ants, and is worth reaching for specifically when fish seem to be mouthing baits and dropping them quickly.

How to work it

Fish it on a jighead with slow lifts and drops along the bottom, letting the scent and natural material encourage fish to hold on longer than they would with an unscented plastic. Keep movements slow and deliberate, letting the scent do extra work during any pause, since rushing the presentation removes much of the advantage the hybrid material offers over a standard plastic.

The setup it likes

A light-to-medium rockfish spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, PE0.6-1 braid and a 6-12 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the Jukusei Aqua Bug Ants across its size range. A light-to-medium spinning outfit matched to a bottom-bouncing jighead suits this bait across both its 2in and 3.3in sizes.
