Description

The Chinu Shokunin Mini Tank is part of Ecogear's Chinu Shokunin line, developed specifically for chinu (black bream) anglers with colours selected in collaboration with bream specialists across Japan. This 1-1/2" / 37mm bait realistically imitates the small crabs that make up a large part of the black bream's diet, supplied 8 pieces per pack.

It is best rigged on a jighead for a slow slide-fall presentation, and also works well as a compact trailer on a small rubber jig aimed at black bream.

Information

The swimming action

A compact, realistic profile imitates the small crabs that make up a large part of a black bream's diet, built to work best as a slow slide-fall presentation rather than a swimming retrieve. Its small scale and crab-like profile are aimed specifically at fish keying on juvenile crabs, a size and shape that a larger soft plastic simply can't replicate convincingly.

When to throw it

Aimed squarely at chinu (black bream) around structure, harbour walls and rock marks, it suits situations where a small, natural crab imitation is needed to draw a bite from cautious, pressured fish. It's particularly useful in the colder months and in heavily pressured water, when chinu are feeding cautiously on small prey rather than chasing anything larger and more active.

How to work it

Rig it on a light jighead and let it slide-fall through the water column, or use it as a compact trailer on a small rubber jig, keeping the presentation slow and natural throughout. As a rubber jig trailer, keep overall jig movement minimal and let the trailer's own slide-fall do most of the work, since chinu tend to prefer subtlety over an aggressive presentation.

The setup it likes

A light chinu spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, PE0.6-0.8 braid and a 4-8 lb fluorocarbon leader suit this 37mm bait on a light jighead or as a rubber jig trailer. Light fluorocarbon leader and a small, sharp jighead keep the presentation natural, which matters more for chinu than for most other species on this list.
