Information

The swimming action

A flat, wide rear body keeps the Celt's swimming action stable at both slow and fast retrieve speeds, while the teardrop-shaped tail bites into even light current for an intense, irregular high-pitch kicking action. That stability at both ends of the speed range is what lets it be fished as either a fast search bait or a slow finesse presentation.

When to throw it

Aimed mainly at rockfish, flatfish and seabass, its slender profile casts a long way, suiting structure, drop-offs and open ground where covering distance and holding a stable action matter. Its long casting distance makes it a strong choice for covering open ground quickly on an unfamiliar mark, narrowing down where fish are holding before switching to a more targeted bait.

How to work it

Rig it on a jighead of roughly 30g as a base to hold a steady range, keeping it tracing through the strike zone on either a slow or fast retrieve depending on how active the fish are. Speed up briefly to trigger a following fish, then return to a steady pace, since the teardrop tail's kick becomes sharper and more irregular the faster it's worked.

The setup it likes

A medium spinning rod rated to around 30g, a 2500-3000 reel, PE0.8-1.2 braid and a 10-16 lb fluorocarbon leader suit the Celt across its 3.5-4in size range. Step the jighead weight up in stronger current or greater depth to keep the Celt tracing through the strike zone rather than rising too high in the water column.
