Information

The drivetrain

A full-metal aluminium monocoque body paired with a large-diameter Tough Digigear gives a powerful, responsive retrieve, while MAGSEALED waterproofing and an air rotor and air bail keep the reel light without sacrificing strength in saltwater use. Overall it behaves as you would expect for a build of this specification, rewarding a measured, deliberate technique over brute force.

What it's built for

Positioned by Daiwa as covering everything from light shore casting and super-light jigging up to large pelagic species, this reel suits a broad spread of saltwater lure fishing rather than one narrow technique. It earns its place in the rack for exactly the situations outlined above, rather than as a general stand-in for other gear.

How it fishes

The ATD drag system with carbon washers gives smooth, stable initial slip against a sudden run, and the LC-ABS long-cast spool helps extend casting distance on lighter shore-casting presentations. Small adjustments in timing and pace through the retrieve often make the difference between a follow and a committed strike.

Spools and spares

In this 4000-8000 size range, pair with a light-to-medium shore-jigging or casting rod, PE mainline suited to the size chosen, and a fluorocarbon leader for typical inshore lure species. Treat the figures above as a starting point and adjust line and leader to match conditions on your own water.
