Information

The swimming action

FLAG SHAD carries a big paddle tail built for a strong, high-response kick, described by Buddy Works as an otherworldly high response. It keeps working on a slow, straight retrieve and also on a curving fall, giving a stronger water push than the brand's grub and curl-tail options.

When to throw it

Suited to hirame and flounder fishing where extra vibration and flash are needed to draw fish from a distance — coloured water, low light, wind chop or when covering larger areas of surf and beach quickly to locate active fish.

How to work it

Retrieve slow and straight to let the paddle tail thump steadily, or let it fall on a semi-slack line and let the tail work on the drop. Its stronger action makes it a good searching bait before switching to a subtler profile if fish are following without committing.

The setup it likes

Rig on a jighead around 15–21g to suit the 4 inch size, water depth and current, fished on an 8–9'6" surf spinning rod, a 3000–4000 reel, PE 1–1.5 braid and a 20–25 lb fluorocarbon leader.
