Information

The swimming action

Uprizing is a sinking vibration bait from Apia that runs a compact, efficient vibration action covering the water column on both the retrieve and the fall, with larger sizes stepping up to a stronger pulling thump for more casting distance.

When to throw it

It suits seabass keyed onto small, easy prey when a subtler thump is needed, and stepping up in size and weight covers deeper water, faster current and lower light where more pull and casting distance help. These are common enough conditions that it is worth keeping one tied on rather than treating it as a rare specialist choice for unusual days.

How to work it

Work it on a straight retrieve to cover water fast, or let it fall through the column on a semi-slack line; the vibration thump gives fish plenty to key onto in coloured or low-light water. Small adjustments to speed and pause length from cast to cast are often enough to turn a quiet spell into solid contact once the right cadence is found.

The setup it likes

A 7-8ft seabass spinning rod, a 2500-3000 reel, 10-14lb braid and a 14-18lb fluorocarbon leader suit the lighter sizes, stepping up leader strength slightly for the heavier Heavy Weight version in deep or fast-flowing water. Matching tackle in this range keeps the outfit comfortable to fish all session while still giving enough authority to control a fish once it is hooked.
