Description

T-AREA FUN (T-エリアファン) is Smith's area-trout rod, built for enjoying each fish, one at a time. It's a 2-piece rod (30t+36t graphite blank) with a forgiving bend that handles a wide range of lure types comfortably — reel-driven spoons and crankbaits as well as rod-worked topwater plugs, minnows, bottom plugs and metal vibration baits.

The listed model, TAF-54UL (5'4", Ultra Light power, Moderate action, 50g, up to ~4g lures, ~4lb line), uses a Fuji DPS grip in light grey EVA with reverse-parallel ferrule construction. Colours include ひのき (Hinoki/cypress) and さくら (Sakura/cherry-blossom) wood-grain finishes. Released March 2025. As a T-AREA FUN model, it is not covered by Smith's rod warranty programme.

The blank

A 30t+36t graphite blank gives T-Area Fun a forgiving, moderate bend that absorbs a trout's headshakes on light line, comfortable working reel-driven spoons and crankbaits as well as rod-worked topwater, minnows and vibration baits.

Built for area-trout ponds where anglers fish light lures at close range and want a rod that suits many retrieve styles, from cast-and-wind spoons to twitched surface plugs.

How it fishes

The Ultra Light, Moderate-action blank handles a slow, steady spoon retrieve or a twitchy topwater cadence equally well, without needing to swap rods between lure types.

The setup it likes

Pairs with a 1000-2000 size spinning reel and 3-4lb fluorocarbon, matched to spoons, small crankbaits and light plugs under 4g.
