Description

The Rapala CountDown Elite CDE55 is a 5.5cm, 5g balsa sinking minnow that runs 0.9-1.2m deep, fitted with two No.12 hooks. It uses a high-strength stainless steel through-body wire plate for added durability and a lower centre of gravity than earlier CountDown designs, plus an eco-friendly tungsten core weight for improved casting distance.

Its flat-sided body produces a sharp dart action on the twitch, while the signature dimpled lip keeps the lure gripping the water for a stable swimming action even in faster currents. Suitable across trout, seabass and bass fishing.

The swimming action

A flat-sided body and dimpled lip give the Elite a sharp dart on the twitch and a stable, tight swim that holds together in faster current, helped by a tungsten core weight and a lower centre of gravity than the standard CountDown.

When to throw it

Suited to trout, seabass and bass fishing wherever a durable, hard-jerking minnow is needed, including faster water where lesser sinking minnows lose their action.

How to work it

Fish it with a steady retrieve for a tight swim, or add sharp twitches for a hard side-to-side dart; the through-body wire and tungsten weighting hold up well to repeated aggressive jerking.

The setup it likes

A light-to-medium spinning rod (L–ML, 7ft) with a 2000–2500 reel, 6–8lb line and a 10lb fluorocarbon leader.
