Description

The Kurodai Ball (クロダイボール) is a sinking soft-plastic worm from Nikko Kasei, built for kurodai (black sea bream) "otoshikomi" (fall/drop) fishing and formulated with crab-shell powder. It is made from Nikko Kasei's N.S.M (Nikko Sinking Material), a high-specific-gravity styrene elastomer that combines strength and softness with a sinking fall.

The crab-shell powder reproduces the crustacean flavour that kurodai favour, extending the time the fish holds onto the bait. Fall speed is set slightly slow as standard so anglers can add split shot to dial in their own ideal fall speed for the conditions.

The swimming action

Molded from a high-specific-gravity sinking material, the Kurodai Ball falls with a steady, slightly slow drop rather than tumbling or fluttering, letting the crab-shell scent do the work as it sinks past cover.

When to throw it

Purpose-built for kurodai otoshikomi (fall/drop) fishing around harbour walls, pilings and other vertical structure where fish hold tight to cover and take a slowly falling bait.

How to work it

Drop it down the face of structure on a light rig and let it fall on a controlled semi-slack line; add split shot above the bait to dial in a faster fall for the depth and current.

The setup it likes

Pairs with a light-to-medium chinu-style rod, a 2500 size spinning reel, and a 4–6 lb fluorocarbon leader over light nylon or fluorocarbon main line.
