Description

The Dappy Super Scent Balls 7mm (ダッピー激臭匂い玉7φ) are soft-plastic scent balls from Nikko Kasei, formulated with an intensely-scented squid-gut (ika-goro) blend using the maker's fish-attractant compounding technology. They are made from the ultra-soft, high-float "Dappy" material, which offsets the weight of the hook underwater for a natural, drifting movement and better response on suction-style bites.

They can be threaded onto the hook shank and fished alongside bait to float a sinking bait and add extra appeal through movement and scent. The maker lists chinu (black sea bream), mejina, horse mackerel (aji), whiting (kisu), goby (haze), flounder (karei), isaki (grunt) and madai (red sea bream) among the target species.

The swimming action

As a soft, buoyant scent ball, it has no swimming action of its own; the floating Dappy material lifts the hook clear of the bottom and drifts gently in the current, with scent doing the attracting rather than movement.

When to throw it

Suited to light bottom and mid-depth bait fishing for chinu, mejina, aji, kisu, goby, flounder and madai, either as the sole bait on a light rig or added to strengthen the scent of another lure or bait.

How to work it

Thread it onto the hook shank alongside bait or fish it alone; there is no retrieve action to work, just scent and buoyancy floating a sinking bait up off the bottom.

The setup it likes

Pairs with a light bottom or aji-mebaru rod, a 1500–2500 size spinning reel, and a 4–8 lb fluorocarbon leader over light braid or nylon main line.
